WE ARE ACTIVELY SEEKING:

CAPTAINS AND PILOTS

Towboat Captains, Towboat mates, and Towboat pilots of our boats command or supervise the operations within domestic waterways. Captains or masters are in overall command of the operation of a vessel, and they supervise the work of all other officers and crew. With their crew, Tow boat captains ensure that proper procedures and safety practices are followed, check to make sure that machinery and equipment are in good working order, and oversee the loading and discharging of cargo or passengers. They also maintain logs and other records tracking the ships’ movements, efforts at controlling pollution, and cargo and passengers carried.

ENGINEERS

Marine engineering broadly refers to the engineering of boats, ships, oil rigs and any other marine vessel or structure. Specifically, marine engineering is the discipline of applying engineering sciences, mostly mechanical and electrical engineering, to the development, design, operation and maintenance of watercraft propulsion and on-board systems; e.g. power and propulsion plants, machinery, piping, automation and control systems etc.

DECKHANDS

Are you thinking a career on the water is for you?

Do you:

• Like the water?

• Like the idea of having uninterrupted time off?

• Like the opportunity to advance your career?

• Like the idea of making $30,000 in your first year?

• Like the idea of working for a family-oriented company?

If you answered yes to ALL of these questions consider applying for our entry level deckhand positions.

What is a Deckhand?

Deckhands assist others on the vessel in preparing barges for the loading and discharging of cargoes.

Deckhands build tows by handling lines and cables to tie and untie barges and boats.

Deckhands perform scheduled vessel maintenance, care for tools and equipment, and perform general housekeeping duties as assigned by their supervisor.

They adhere to company safety policy and procedures, environmental rules and governmental regulation.

Deckhands work under the supervision of the Captain or the Deckhand’s immediate supervisor.

A Deckhand is:
• Willing to learn from others
• Able to read, understand and communicate in English
• Able to use basic math
• Willing to follow directions
• Able to make appropriate decisions
• Dependable
• Willing to adhere to rules and regulations
• A team player
• Stable under pressure
• Drug and alcohol-free

A deckhand is at the entry level on Graestone's career ladder, but they don't stay there long! Because Graestone believes in "training our own," there are always opportunities for advancement if you meet the proper requirements!
